Celebrated for his versatile voice acting, Dodson leaves behind a legacy of memorable characters
Mark Dodson, the revered voice actor famous for his roles in “Gremlins” and “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi,” has died at the age of 64. His passing was confirmed by Stellar Appearances, his talent agency for personal appearances, which released a heartfelt statement on Facebook. “Mark worked on dozens of movies, video games, commercials, and advertisements, adding his unique voice and sound to each character and script he touched,” the agency remarked. Known for his engagement with fans and frequent appearances at conventions, Dodson’s contribution to the voice-acting realm has left an indelible mark.
Dodson’s journey in the entertainment industry spanned over four decades, during which he not only voiced characters but also worked as a radio man and producer. His breakout role came in 1983 with “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi,” where he brought to life the mischievous Salacious Crumb. The following year, Dodson ventured into the horror genre, lending his voice to Mogwai in the iconic film “Gremlins.”
Aside from these standout performances, Dodson’s versatile voice can be heard in “Day of the Dead” (1985) as several zombies, and more recently in “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens” (2015) as Niima Scavenger. His talents extended to the gaming industry, where he contributed to titles such as “Ghostrunner II,” “Bendy and the Dark Revival,” “Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga,” and “Ghostrunner.”
His unexpected death occurred in Evansville, Indiana, where he was slated to attend Horror Con. According to his daughter, Dodson suffered a heart attack while sleeping. He leaves behind a legacy celebrated by fans and colleagues alike, his daughter Ciara, and his grandchildren.
