Police stopped Nicholas Prosper after the Luton family murder—then uncovered his shocking next target

A 19-year-old behind the Luton family murder had also been plotting a school shooting before his arrest, police have revealed.

Nicholas Prosper killed Juliana Falcon, 48, Giselle Prosper, 13, and Kyle Prosper, 16, inside their Leabank flat on 13 September 2024. Officers later found him in Bramingham Road with a loaded shotgun and over 30 cartridges hidden nearby. Further investigation uncovered his detailed plans for an attack on a local school.

Detective Chief Inspector Sam Khanna of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit called it “a truly tragic and shocking case.” He added, “Not only were three innocent lives taken, but Prosper had prepared to commit further unspeakable violence.”

Prosper pleaded guilty to three counts of murder and other weapons charges, including possession of a shotgun with intent to endanger life. He will be sentenced on 5 March.

The family released a heartbreaking statement remembering Juliana as a devoted mother, Kyle as a “funny and talented young man,” and Giselle as a “beautiful soul with an infectious smile.”

Authorities praised the officers who prevented further bloodshed, with Luton Council leader Hazel Simmons calling the revelation of his school attack plan “extremely shocking.” Schools have been urged to reassess security measures.

Chris Derrick, deputy chief crown prosecutor, stated, “Prosper will spend a long time behind bars. Today, our thoughts are with the victims whose lives were stolen in a cold-blooded attack.”

A psychological assessment of Prosper revealed he had been harbouring violent fantasies for months, with investigators uncovering disturbing writings detailing his intentions. Experts noted that his actions appeared premeditated, with clear evidence of planning both the family murders and the thwarted school attack.

In response to the case, local authorities are reviewing protocols for identifying and intervening in potential threats earlier. Bedfordshire Police urged communities to remain vigilant and report any warning signs, emphasizing the importance of mental health support and preventive measures to avert future tragedies.
