London City Airport was evacuated as a precaution following an incident in the landside area, with flights delayed

London City Airport was forced into a brief evacuation earlier this afternoon after an undisclosed “incident” occurred in the landside area. While the specific nature of the incident has not been confirmed by officials, a spokesperson from the airport stated that the evacuation was purely a precautionary measure.

The landside area, which is open to the public and located between the airport’s boundary and the boarding gates, saw hundreds of passengers ushered out of the terminal. Many were left stranded in the car park as they awaited further information on when they could safely re-enter. One passenger described the scene, saying, “It seemed like several hundred people were evacuated, and we were all waiting outside in the car park, uncertain about what was going on.”

During the evacuation, inbound flights were temporarily diverted, with several planes placed in a holding pattern above the Thames Estuary until the situation was resolved.

Witnesses reported receiving conflicting explanations about the cause of the evacuation. Some overheard announcements referring to a “security incident,” while others near Stratford station mentioned an “ongoing police investigation.” This only added to the confusion and anxiety for those waiting to re-enter the terminal.

Despite the uncertainty, a spokesperson for London City Airport assured the public that the incident had been fully resolved and that normal operations had resumed. “We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” they said. “The safety of our passengers and staff is our number one priority, and we are now allowing passengers to re-enter the terminal.”

As of now, there has been no confirmation of any injuries or arrests, and authorities have yet to provide a detailed explanation of what led to the temporary closure of the airport’s landside area. Passengers are now being allowed back into the terminal, but the brief disruption has left many wondering about the potential security concerns at one of London’s busiest airports
