Graphic video shows defendant charging at judge in Las Vegas court

A judge in Las Vegas has broken her silence after being brutally attacked by a defendant in her courtroom. The shocking incident, which took place at the Regional Justice Center, was captured on video and has since gone viral.

Deobra Delone Redden, the defendant, faced District Judge Mary Kay Holthus for sentencing after pleading guilty to attempted battery causing substantial bodily harm. During the hearing, Redden asked for leniency, but Judge Holthus, considering his criminal history, denied his request for probation and indicated he would be sent to prison.

In a sudden turn of events, Redden charged towards the judge, flinging himself over the bench. Court officials and officers intervened, dragging Redden away. Judge Holthus, while not hospitalized, sustained injuries in the attack.

In a testimony transcript, Judge Holthus described the attack as Redden “literally jump[ing] that defence table” and “slam[ming] [her] into the wall.” She expressed gratitude to the court officials for intervening, acknowledging that she was no match for Redden.

Redden has been sentenced to four years in prison for the attempted battery charge. He faces additional charges related to the courtroom incident, including attempted murder of an older person.
