Say goodbye to the ‘freeze of the century’ because the UK is about to trade icy temperatures for a surprising warmth that could outshine parts of Spain, as per insiders at the UK’s weather authority.

A recent arctic blast sent shivers across Britain, with temperatures plummeting to a bone-chilling -14°C, and thick blankets of snow turning parts of the nation into a winter wonderland.

Despite four lingering snow and ice warnings, amber alerts for heavy snowfall in northern Scotland, and widespread school closures, there’s good news on the horizon. A significant weather shift is on the horizon, with a milder air mass making its way in from the west, offering a much-needed break from the biting cold.

Forecasters predict sub-zero temperatures will soon be a distant memory, replaced by surprisingly balmy highs of up to 15°C. The weather spokesperson, Nicky Maxey, revealed to our sources, “By Monday (January 22), we could see temperatures in the double digits. London might hit 13, 14, or even 15°C. Glasgow could enjoy 8-10°C. It’s a remarkable change in the weather vibe.”

Most of southern England is expected to revel in highs of around 12-13°C during the upcoming Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, a stark contrast to the recent -6°C lows experienced in London.

If the mercury does climb to an impressive 15°C in the capital, it will outshine Ibiza’s 14°C and Barcelona’s 13°C. London might even compete with Corfu (14°C), and Madrid (10°C), and match both Valencia and Benidorm (15°C). Time to dust off the sun cream and dream of summer holidays? Hold on, it’s not all sunshine and warmth, especially for our friends in northern England.

As the warmer air sweeps in, so does the increased likelihood of heavy rain and strong winds. The Met Office warns, “Turning mild, wet, and windy through the weekend and into next week. Gales or severe gales likely on Sunday, especially in the northwest. Locally heavy outbreaks of rain at times.”

Nicky Maxey chimes in, “It’s going to be more wet and windy though. We bid farewell to the cold and welcome back the wet and windy.”

Unfortunately, the excitement of warmer temperatures comes with a price. The Met Office’s long-range UK forecast for the rest of the month cautions, “The milder than normal conditions are likely to persist through the end of January, with unsettled conditions mainly focused across the north and northwest. In the south and southeast, some drier and more settled spells are probable, especially later in the month. Although milder than of late, the chance of overnight frost and fog increases once again.” Get ready for a weather rollercoaster, UK!
