The Duke and Duchess of Sussex face criticism over use of royal titles and omissions on their website

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have once again ignited a royal controversy with the launch of their new website, Sussex.com. The website, which quietly went live recently, features their royal titles prominently, along with a royal crest, raising concerns about potential commercial use.

The website serves as a platform for the couple to share updates on their post-royal work and charitable endeavours. However, its display of their royal titles has raised eyebrows, especially since the couple stepped back as working royals over four years ago.

A source close to Harry and Meghan has defended their use of titles, stating that they are theirs by right. The source dismissed accusations of using the titles for commercial purposes, suggesting instead that the couple is preparing for a relaunch of their post-royal careers.

Despite the lengthy bios provided on the website, there are notable omissions. Prince Harry’s bio makes no mention of his upbringing or his royal relatives, including his father, King Charles, and late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. Similarly, Meghan Markle’s bio excludes her surname, Markle, and reduces her acting career to a few words.

The use of the word “Sussex” on the website has also raised concerns, as it is a royal title. There are fears that any commercial use of the title could lead to repercussions. However, a source close to the couple has defended the use of “Sussex,” stating that it is their surname and family name.

The launch of Sussex.com comes after the couple’s previous website, Sussexroyal.com, was reportedly banned. The old website contains outdated information, including listing the late Queen as Sovereign.

In addition to Sussex.com, Harry and Meghan have launched websites for Archewell Productions and the Archewell Foundation. The couple’s previous Archewell.com website now redirects to Sussex.com, indicating a shift in their online presence.

The controversy surrounding the new website highlights the ongoing complexities of Harry and Meghan’s post-royal life, as they navigate their roles and responsibilities outside of the royal family.
