Vice President Harris states a military operation in Rafah by Israel would be a “huge mistake,” leaving consequences on the table

Vice President Kamala Harris has indicated that the United States could consider “consequences” for Israel if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu proceeds with plans to invade Rafah in Gaza. In a firm stance during an ABC News interview, Harris highlighted the gravity of such a military operation, suggesting it would represent a “huge mistake” on Israel’s part. This comment comes amid escalating tensions, with Netanyahu insisting that an invasion is necessary to dismantle Hamas operations in the area.

Rafah, currently home to approximately 1 million Palestinian refugees displaced by ongoing conflict, is considered the last stronghold of Hamas in Gaza. The Biden administration has urged Israel to ensure that any military action includes robust measures to protect civilian lives, a condition that remains a point of contention between the two governments. Harris’s remarks underscore a growing divide, emphasizing U.S. concerns over the humanitarian implications of further military escalation in Gaza.

Netanyahu’s vow to pursue the invasion, irrespective of U.S. support, has sparked intense discussions, with a high-level Israeli delegation expected to seek compromise in upcoming talks with White House officials. The international community watches closely as diplomatic efforts intensify to prevent further escalation and protect civilians caught in the crossfire.
