Gaming phenomenon unleashes anticipation with first trailer, promising a cultural and financial triumph
After a prolonged wait, the gaming world received its first tantalizing glimpse of GTA VI this week, and the expectations are sky-high. Rockstar Games, the mastermind behind the Grand Theft Auto series, dropped the highly anticipated trailer, revealing a visually stunning portrayal of the awaited Vice City and introducing Lucia, the series’ first female protagonist.
While fans celebrated the long-awaited trailer, the announcement of a 2025 release date left some disappointed. Nevertheless, the gaming community is gearing up for what is predicted to be an unprecedented financial triumph.
GTA VI’s reveal trailer secured its place in the Guinness World Records, boasting the most views for a video game trailer on YouTube within 24 hours. Ciaran Lee, a gaming expert, foresees a colossal payday for Rockstar upon GTA VI’s release.
“The GTA series is a cultural phenomenon, and its loyal fans have had to wait 10 years for a new installment,” commented Lee. He added, “GTA 5 made $800 million in its first day and $1 billion in its first three days. Grand Theft Auto 5 launch week was huge, and GTA 6 will be colossal. I predict that it will be one of the biggest openings for an entertainment title and could do $1 billion to $1.5 billion in sales within 24 hours.”
Acknowledging the challenge of predicting long-term sales, Lee draws parallels with GTA V’s success, which has sold over 190 million units worldwide as of November 2023, making it the second best-selling game of all time. Lee anticipates GTA VI comfortably outselling its predecessor.
“Long-term sales are harder to predict and rely on the game being good, but if everything we have seen so far, along with past results from Rockstar, it should outsell GTA 5 comfortably,” asserted Lee.
