The ska community mourns the loss of Greg Lee, whose soulful voice and vibrant energy touched fans worldwide
Greg Lee, the co-lead singer of the renowned California ska band Hepcat, tragically passed away at the age of 53. Amanda Becker, his partner, shared the heartbreaking news on social media, detailing how Lee suffered a massive brain aneurysm and cardiac arrest at their home in Paramount, California, on March 17, 2024, before succumbing to his condition in the hospital two days later.
Lee was found unconscious and not breathing by Becker, who promptly called for emergency assistance. Despite the efforts of first responders to revive him, Lee never regained consciousness and was on life support until his passing. According to Becker, the neurologist described Lee’s condition as very rare and assured that he did not suffer in his final moments.
Throughout his career with Hepcat and involvement with other Southern California ska groups, Lee inspired countless fans and fellow musicians with his unique talent and positive energy.
