Police investigating alarming find as emergency services respond to incident
Six migrants have been hospitalized after they were discovered in the back of a freezer lorry on a cross-Channel ferry from France to Newhaven, East Sussex. Police arrested two men in connection with the incident, one on suspicion of facilitating illegal entry to the UK and the other for illegally entering the country.
The lorry, which arrived at the East Sussex ferry port from Dieppe, was found to be carrying a number of people, according to Sussex Police. The Home Office has confirmed that there have been no deaths related to this incident.
Border Force authorities in the UK were alerted before the ferry arrived in Britain. The ambulance service has taken the six individuals to hospital for treatment.
Heavy police and ambulance presence was observed at the port, with at least six ambulance vehicles and five police patrols on the scene. Emergency services, including Hazardous Area Response Teams, were dispatched to the port in response to the incident.
Lewes MP Maria Caulfield expressed concern about the reports, stating that there was a lot of activity at the port and thanking the emergency services for their response
