The band’s rendition of Roan’s hit track showcases their indie twist on the Grammy-nominated song.

Franz Ferdinand has put their own spin on Chappell Roan’s hit song ‘Good Luck, Babe’, offering fans a rousing cover that brings their signature indie style to the pop track. The band performed the Grammy-nominated song live on BBC Radio 2’s show with Jo Whiley on November 27, 2024, much to the excitement of their fans.

Ahead of the performance, frontman Alex Kapranos couldn’t contain his admiration for Roan’s work. Speaking to Whiley, he expressed his love for the song and the artist, saying, “It’s just an amazing song by an incredible artist. It’s funny, you get some artists that have a moment, and often it’s kind of divisive. Some people absolutely love them and some people hate them. But I’ve not come across anybody I know, none of my friends, nobody I know, who doesn’t like this artist. They’re just so good. This song’s incredible so we’re going to play it.”

Kapranos’ enthusiasm for the track is evident in their take on it, which gives the pop number an indie edge, while still respecting its original essence. The cover showcases Franz Ferdinand’s unique ability to reimagine songs and add their own flair, making it a standout moment on the show.

The song, originally from Roan’s 2023 album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, was a major hit in the pop music world, earning critical acclaim and a Grammy nomination. Franz Ferdinand’s version brings a fresh, gritty feel to the song while preserving its emotional depth.

The cover comes ahead of Franz Ferdinand’s upcoming album The Human Fear, which is set to be released on January 10, 2025, via Domino. The band has already shared two singles from the album, ‘Night or Day’ and ‘Audacious’, both of which have garnered significant attention from fans and critics alike. With their latest cover and the highly anticipated release of The Human Fear, Franz Ferdinand continues to prove their versatility and staying power in the ever-evolving music scene.

Fans can pre-order or pre-save The Human Fear ahead of its release and can also revisit the band’s indie-infused cover of ‘Good Luck, Babe’ below.
