The Stranger Things actor explains why home life in Vancouver still makes sense despite fame

Finn Wolfhard, the Canadian actor famous for his role as Mike Wheeler in Stranger Things, has opened up about his living situation, revealing that despite his global fame, he’s not in a hurry to leave the family nest.

At 22, with major Hollywood projects under his belt and international fame from Netflix’s hit sci-fi series, Finn has chosen to move back in with his parents — and he’s not ashamed to say why.

In a candid interview with People magazine, Wolfhard opened up about his living situation, saying simply: “It’s nice.”

“I lived alone for a few years, I guess two years, and then I moved back in with my family for a year,” he said. “And then, last year, I was living alone in Atlanta for the year while shooting Stranger Things, but I have since moved back in with my family.”

It turns out, that the family home in Vancouver offers more than just a roof over his head. “We all have our separate space, but we still live together, and it’s great,” the actor said, emphasising the comfort and stability his home life brings.

Wolfhard, who was born in December 2002, is no stranger to the spotlight. He rose to fame as part of the original Stranger Things ensemble cast, becoming one of the most recognisable young actors of his generation. He has since starred in films like It, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and recently Hell of a Summer, which he co-directed.

But behind the red carpets and film sets, he values a grounded connection to family life. “I rarely get to see my family. I think it’s a nice home base to have,” he explained. “If I’m going to be away for most of the year working, then I might as well have a place [to come back to] with my parents.”

Finn was raised by his parents Eric Wolfhard and Mary Jolivet in Vancouver, a city known for its blend of natural beauty and film production. His older brother, Nick Wolfhard, is also part of the entertainment industry — making the family’s involvement in showbiz a shared experience.

His decision to return home reflects a growing trend among young adults — especially those whose careers involve long stretches away — who view home as a place of emotional and logistical support, not a failure of independence.

Despite a career that spans acting, music, and directing, Wolfhard shows no signs of Hollywood ego. Instead, his remarks show someone still deeply attached to his roots and proud of his connections.

Fans have responded warmly to the actor’s comments, applauding his down-to-earth nature and appreciation for family life.

On social media, many praised Wolfhard for showing maturity and humility. One fan wrote, “It’s actually refreshing to hear someone that famous speak so lovingly about their home life.”

As Stranger Things prepares to wrap with its final season, and Wolfhard’s directorial ambitions begin to take shape, the actor seems content to stay anchored to the people who’ve supported him since the beginning.

His life may include monsters, music, and movie premieres — but for now, it still starts and ends at home.
