In a heart-stopping escapade, British free climber Adam Lockwood, also known as ‘Nuisance’ on YouTube, spilled the details of his audacious climb up a towering crane in Dubai, only to encounter a slippery surprise. The daredevil went to extreme lengths, even posing as a construction worker, to access the colossal crane, located atop the residential skyscraper Il Primo.

In a video titled ‘Hanging off the tallest crane in Dubai (390m) after getting caught,’ Lockwood recounted the nail-biting adventure. He nearly missed his chance due to an unexpected encounter in the elevator, where he faced an individual ‘shouting’ at him in Arabic. Undeterred, Lockwood found an alternative route after some clever chatting, proceeding with his risky ascent.

As he ascended, the daring climber navigated different stairwells, changing eight times over two hours to avoid detection. Reaching the pinnacle, Lockwood discovered a perilous obstacle—he had only one GoPro battery with 20% charge. The ensuing footage showcased his fearless exploits, including hanging from the structure, looping his legs over a bar, and even dangling upside down.

However, the real shock came when Lockwood realised the crane bars were covered in ‘grease’ and not desert dust, as he initially believed. Perched 1,280ft above Dubai, the free climber faced slipping hands and feet, making the gripping adventure even more perilous.

Reflecting on the daring stunt, Lockwood expressed satisfaction, calling it ‘the most incredible thing’ he has done. He emphasised the thrill of hanging off the tallest crane in Dubai, near the world’s tallest building, despite the risks and potential legal consequences.

Wearing a hard hat to blend in with workers, Lockwood managed to escape undetected. Despite four close calls during the climb and a few more during the descent, he safely reached the ground. Lockwood acknowledged the surreal feeling of being suspended at such heights, describing it as peaceful.

While proud of the feat, Lockwood declared that he won’t be repeating the same stunt anytime soon, emphasising his resolve with, “On my life, I’m not doing that again.” The daring climber remains unshaken in his love for the challenges and thrills that come with conquering extraordinary heights and secure locations.
