Nurse Deon Smith recounts harrowing incident as an 11-Year-Old and teen carjack her during DoorDash delivery

A DoorDash driver, also a nurse, from Richmond, Virginia, faced a nightmarish situation as she was carjacked at gunpoint during a delivery by an unexpected assailant – an 11-year-old child. Deon Smith, 40, had been working for the delivery app in the early hours of November 30 when she encountered the shocking incident involving a child and a teenager.

Recalling the horrifying moment, Smith described how the 11-year-old approached her, claiming to be armed and demanding her keys. Despite her attempts to de-escalate the situation, the child’s intentions were clear, leaving Smith in disbelief at the severity of the encounter. The nurse questioned the child’s presence at such a late hour and implored them to reconsider their actions.

As the teenager forcibly opened the car door, Smith made a swift decision to flee while still in the process of making a DoorDash delivery. The child and the teenager proceeded to take control of her vehicle, resulting in a subsequent crash.

Following the incident, Smith promptly reported the carjacking to the police, leading to the arrest of both the 11-year-old and the teenager. The stolen vehicle was found crashed in Henrico County, leading to charges of robbery against the juvenile suspects. Thankfully, the two were released with no significant injuries after the crash.

In the aftermath of the traumatic incident, Smith’s friends initiated a GoFundMe campaign to provide support for her and her 10-year-old daughter. The loss of her car has posed challenges for Smith in her role as a home health care nurse.

Expressing gratitude for surviving the harrowing ordeal, Smith emphasized the importance of prayer and protection in the face of adversity. She acknowledged the replaceable nature of a car but highlighted the irreplaceable value of life.
