In a shocking and tragic turn of events, DJ Rick Buchanan, known by his stage name ‘Slick Rick,’ was discovered decapitated in his Memphis, Tennessee, home by his brother John Buchanan on January 24. This devastating incident comes exactly a decade after Rick survived a shooting during a robbery.

The discovery was made when a concerned neighbour alerted John after noticing that the door to Rick’s residence was left ajar.

Rick’s life had taken a harrowing turn a decade ago when he was shot during a gunpoint robbery outside the live music venue, The Stage Shop. Following the incident, he underwent multiple surgeries to recover from his injuries. John Buchanan recounted the impact of the shooting on his brother, stating that it became increasingly challenging for Rick to find employment, and he gradually became more of a homebody.

Describing the heartbreaking moment he found his brother, John said, “I walked in, and then I found him, and I just called 911. I thought his coat was up over his head like it was cold or something. I ran out and then I ran back in. And, then I realised it was something worse.”

The circumstances surrounding Rick’s death remain under investigation by the police. While his brother mentioned the decapitation, there is no official confirmation of this detail at this time.

The police department issued a statement, saying, “The cause of death is undetermined at this time, the department said in a post on X. ‘The death investigation is ongoing.'”

In the wake of this tragic loss, Rick’s family has launched a GoFundMe page to raise funds for his funeral expenses. The GoFundMe message highlighted Rick’s generous nature, explaining, “If you knew Rick, you know he gave to anyone he could, friends, strangers, and charities like MDA. He used his voice and personality to raise unthinkable amounts of money for others.”

Additionally, the family plans to adopt Rick’s dog, Lucky, as they come to terms with this devastating loss.
