Honoring the legacy of Laura Lynch: A pioneer in Dixie Chicks’ success, remembered despite untimely loss in a fatal car accident

Laura Lynch, a founding member of the US country music band the Dixie Chicks, died in a car crash at 65 near El Paso, as confirmed by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The collision between two vehicles claimed Lynch’s life on Friday. The current band members expressed shock and sadness on Instagram, remembering the special moments spent playing music, laughing, and traveling together.

“We hold a special place in our hearts for the time we spent playing music, laughing, and traveling together. Laura was a bright light. Her infectious energy and humor gave a spark to the early days of our band,” the band said.

Laura Lynch, a bassist and later vocalist, played a pivotal role in the band’s early success. Gifted in design and with a love for all things Texas, she helped propel the Dixie Chicks beyond street corners to stages across Texas and the mid-West.

The band, initially formed in Dallas, Texas, in 1989, performed country and bluegrass music at various festivals and venues. Lynch’s departure in 1995 preceded their commercial success with the 1998 album “Wide Open Spaces.”

Three years ago, the band renamed themselves The Chicks, dropping “Dixie” due to its connotations to American slavery. Despite the change, the band’s heartfelt message expressed gratitude for Lynch’s undeniable talents and offered condolences to her family and loved ones.
