We all enjoy a spontaneous spree at Primark, but ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at one of the high street’s biggest stores? Former employee Caitlin Sinnett spills the beans on her two-and-a-half-year stint at Primark, unveiling some shop secrets that might surprise you.

Caitlin, now a TikTok beauty enthusiast, discloses several behind-the-scenes revelations, including the mystery behind elusive sizes and why you might leave the store without your desired item.

In a candid confession, Caitlin reveals that when staff claim to be checking the stockroom for your size, they may just be taking a moment to catch their breath. “If we say we’re going to the back to check for a size or a certain item for you, [we’re] probably not. We’re probably standing there at the back for a few minutes,” she admits. Sometimes, she herself would make the trip, “pretend” to search, and then deliver the disappointing news that the item “wasn’t in stock.”

Surprisingly, Caitlin discloses that staff can order items for customers but often choose not to disclose this option. The same applies to checking nearby branches for additional sizes and items – it’s a possibility, but not something they’re quick to offer.

If you’re struggling to locate a specific item, Caitlin suggests relying on your own navigation skills, as staff might be just as clueless due to the frequent rearrangement of the store layout. “Don’t ask me where something is – because we probably won’t know, as the shop gets moved around like every two days. We know just as much as you,” she shares with a chuckle.

Caitlin also spills the beans on snagging a bargain. If you discover a damaged item, she suggests taking it to the till and notifying the cashier. The supervisor or manager will then step in, offering a discounted price. Alternatively, if you want to keep the item, you can return it for a refund and repurchase it at a reduced rate.

For those wondering about staff perks, Caitlin reveals that employees receive discounts four times a year for four weeks, coinciding with the seasons. However, this discount doesn’t apply to sale items, making it essential for the cashier to determine the item’s status during the transaction.
