The Nagrota MLA and prominent advocate for the Dogra community dies in Faridabad, leaving behind a legacy of political service and business success

Jammu and Kashmir is in mourning following the sudden death of senior BJP leader and Nagrota MLA, Devender Singh Rana, who passed away on November 1, 2024, at a private hospital in Faridabad, Haryana. He was 59 years old. Rana had been receiving treatment at the facility, as confirmed by senior party members, and is survived by his wife, Gunjan Rana, and their three children: daughters Devyani and Ketki, and son Adhiraj Singh.

Rana’s death sent shockwaves through the political landscape, with news of his passing prompting an outpouring of grief from colleagues and constituents alike. Hundreds of mourners, including prominent political figures, gathered at his residence in the Gandhinagar area of Jammu to pay their respects. Union Minister Jitendra Singh, Rana’s brother, was among the first to arrive at the family home, visibly shaken by the loss.

Originally a businessman who built a multi-crore enterprise from the ground up, Rana transitioned into politics in October 2021 when he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He quickly established himself as a strong advocate for the Dogra community in Jammu, championing their rights and interests throughout his political career. Recently, Rana was re-elected to the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, securing his seat from the Nagrota constituency for a second consecutive term, a testament to his popularity and influence in the region.
