Chill alert: Met office predicts another snowy onslaught across Britain, triggering travel turmoil and school shutdowns!

Get ready, folks! Brace yourselves for another round of winter wonderland chaos, as the Met Office dishes out a chilling warning of more snow sweeping across the UK. The white stuff is causing absolute mayhem, disrupting travel plans and forcing schools to shut their doors.

Hold on to your hats, because high ground in north-west Scotland is in for a proper snow blanket, with the Met Office predicting a whopping 40cm of the fluffy stuff by the end of Friday. Caithness and Sutherland in north-west Scotland are in for a wild ride, facing the brunt of this snowy spectacle.

It’s a nationwide affair, my friends! Brace for impact as much of Britain gets a taste of snow and freezing temperatures throughout the week, courtesy of that cold Arctic air. Over the weekend, wet and windy weather is set to sweep in, adding to the winter drama.

Already, the snow has played havoc, shutting down around 200 schools in Merseyside, Aberdeenshire, Moray, and Shetland on Monday. Scotland takes the crown with over 120 schools closing their doors. Aberdeenshire is facing a whopping 22 school closures on Tuesday, while transport nightmares and partial closures plague the rest of the area.

The Highlands are not spared, with 75 schools closed and others either partially closed or opening late. Shetland is feeling the chill too, with 26 schools shutting down. Altnaharra in the Highlands takes the lead with 16 cm of snow, followed by Wick with 14cm and Aberdeen Airport with a cool 12cm.

Buckle up, drivers! The wintry weather is turning roads into a slippery challenge in north-west England, including Merseyside, Cheshire, and Cumbria. Lancashire Police reports a surge in road traffic collisions, while Merseyside Police are dealing with a flurry of incidents due to the snow.

Hold onto your hats and scarves because yellow weather warnings for snow and ice are the order of the day across Scotland, much of northern England, and parts of North Wales until Thursday. Brace for a temperature plunge as low as minus 15 C in some places on Tuesday night, and don’t be surprised if more warnings pop up at short notice.

But fear not! The weekend promises milder temperatures, though westerly winds will bring rain and the potential for more weather warnings as the snow begins to melt. Stephen Dixon, the Met Office’s spokesperson, sums it up: “We’ve seen a fair bit of snow already, and more is expected. It will be a continuing theme through much of this week.”

Get ready for the grand finale, folks! By Sunday, a deep area of low pressure will roll in, bringing strong winds and heavy rain. The Government confirms cold weather payments for eligible households in England and Wales, while the UK Health Security Agency issues a cold-health alert.

National Highways and National Rail are sounding the alarms too, warning of potential disruptions, delays, and hazardous conditions. So, bundle up, plan ahead, and stay safe as the UK weathers another wintry storm!
