Charlie Woods shoots 15-under to win first AJGA event, showing early signs of golfing star
Tiger Woods may need to clear some space on his trophy shelf as his 16-year-old son, Charlie Woods, secured his first American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) tournament win on Wednesday.
At the Team TaylorMade Invitational held at the Streamsong Resort Black Course in Florida, Charlie delivered an impressive three-round total of 15-under-par 201 to claim victory against a field of 71 players, including four of the AJGA’s top five ranked juniors.
Charlie began the final day tied at nine-under 135, then posted a stellar six-under 66 in his closing round. His performance included eight birdies and two bogeys, finishing strong with four consecutive pars to seal a three-stroke lead.
The teenager finished ahead of a tight group including fifth-ranked Luke Colton, Willie Gordon and Phillip Dunham, demonstrating considerable composure and skill for his age.
Woods has been steadily building momentum in his young career. This tournament marked only his fifth AJGA appearance, having previously tied for 25th at the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley in March. Yet he has already tasted success on the junior circuit, including a win in the 14-15-year-old division at the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour’s Major Championship in June 2023.
The Woods family’s golfing legacy continues to attract attention, and Charlie’s breakthrough hints at a promising future. His recent win comes as the golf world prepares for the Memorial Tournament, hosted by Jack Nicklaus, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Golf from May 29 to June 1.
As the son of one of golf’s all-time greats, expectations are high. But with performances like this, Charlie is beginning to carve out his own path and establish his credentials as a rising star in the sport.
