New co-hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard face mixed reactions as fans call for a change in presenting style on the popular ITV show

This week marked the arrival of fresh faces on ITV’s beloved ‘This Morning,’ with Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard stepping in as the new hosting duo. However, their debut has not been without controversy, as some fans have expressed dissatisfaction with Deeley’s on-screen mannerisms.

At 47, Deeley brings a wealth of experience to the table, yet her approach to hosting has left several viewers feeling irked. Critics have taken to social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter), to voice their concerns, pointing out what they perceive as excessive interruptions and a tendency to dominate conversations. One disgruntled viewer lamented, “Cat’s constant chatter is making it hard to follow even a simple curry recipe. Less talk, more listening, please!”

The critique wasn’t limited to just one episode. During a segment featuring MasterChef judge John Torode, complaints about Deeley’s interruptions continued to pour in. Another viewer expressed their frustration, stating, “I’ve had to switch off. Cat’s incessant interruptions are too much to bear.”

In a lighthearted moment on Thursday’s show, co-host Ben Shephard playfully hinted that Deeley should “stop talking” and “listen” more, especially during a fashion segment led by Claire Richards. This comment, although in jest, seemed to echo the sentiments of many viewers.

Despite the backlash, it’s not all doom and gloom for the new hosting pair. Some audience members have praised the fresh dynamic that Deeley and Shephard bring to the program. A fan tweeted, “Caught a glimpse of them hosting #thismorning, and it was a breath of fresh air.” Another added, “Loving the relaxed vibe with Ben and Cat. They seem to gel well together, and the guests appear more comfortable.”

As the dust settles on their first week, it remains to be seen whether Cat Deeley will adjust her hosting style in response to viewer feedback or if the criticisms will fade as audiences become more accustomed to the new duo. One thing is for sure – the ever-evolving landscape of morning television continues to keep viewers and hosts alike on their toes
