Dubois will defend her newly acquired title against Jessica Camara in January, marking a pivotal moment in her undefeated career.
Britain’s Caroline Dubois has been elevated to WBC lightweight champion following Katie Taylor’s decision to vacate the title. Dubois, 23, secured the interim championship in August by outpointing Uruguay’s Maira Moneo, extending her undefeated professional record to 10 wins since debuting in 2022.
This announcement comes as Taylor, a legend in women’s boxing, shifts her focus to light welterweight, where she recently defended her undisputed crown against Amanda Serrano. Taylor hasn’t competed in the lightweight division since 2022, paving the way for Dubois’ promotion.
Dubois will make her first title defence on 11 January in Sheffield against Canada’s Jessica Camara, a seasoned fighter with 14 wins and four losses. Camara’s notable bouts include a hard-fought loss to WBO light-welterweight champion Kali Reis in 2021.
“It’s always been my dream to become world champion, and this is just the start,” said Dubois. “I’m excited to defend my WBC title in Sheffield.”
This milestone mirrors the success of her brother, Daniel Dubois, who was upgraded to IBF heavyweight champion earlier this year after Oleksandr Usyk vacated the belt.
Promoter Ben Shalom praised Dubois’ rapid ascent, stating, “Caroline is only beginning to showcase her true potential. We believe she will become the future face of women’s boxing.”
With this latest achievement, Dubois cements her status as one of the most exciting talents in women’s boxing, heralding a new era for the lightweight division.
