Italian studio Little Sewing Machine sets October 9 release for its chilling adventure Bye Sweet Carole, blending victorian horror, sinister folklore, and hand-drawn animation

The wait is almost over for horror fans who have been watching the shadows of Bye Sweet Carole. Italian developer Little Sewing Machine confirmed the game will release worldwide on 9 October for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series, and PC through Steam. Pre-orders are already live, and a brand-new trailer has set the tone for what may be one of the year’s most unsettling releases.

Bye Sweet Carole is the creation of Chris Darril, the acclaimed designer behind the Remothered series. With this project, Darril pushes his disturbing vision even further, mixing influences from classic European animation with the twisted storytelling that has earned him a reputation as one of horror gaming’s most daring voices.

The game follows Lana Benton, a determined young woman drawn into a nightmare that blurs the line between innocence and terror. Set in the early 1900s, against the backdrop of Britain’s suffrage movement, Lana searches desperately for her best friend, Carole Simmons. Her journey leads to Bunny Hall, an orphanage whose shadowed halls whisper of cruelty and lost souls.

As the story unfolds, Lana discovers the existence of Corolla, a dark, fantastical realm where nightmares feed and hope withers. This sinister world is ruled by grotesque figures—the sadistic Mr Kyn, the unfeeling owl Velenia, and entire colonies of tar bunnies that hunger for flesh. Each encounter drags Lana deeper into a realm that wants to consume her spirit as much as her body.

The new trailer teases fresh chapters of horror and glimpses of monstrous new foes. It also hints at the evolving bond between Lana and Carole, a friendship that may prove to be both salvation and curse. With haunting hand-drawn animation, the footage suggests Bye Sweet Carole will balance beauty and brutality in equal measure.

Fans of physical editions are in for a treat. Both the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch versions will ship with exclusive content. Buyers can expect reversible cover artwork, a digital soundtrack boasting 27 original tracks, and an artbook that reveals the dark creative process behind the project. These extras promise to give collectors and horror enthusiasts a deeper look into the nightmarish vision of Little Sewing Machine.

What sets Bye Sweet Carole apart from standard horror fare is its uncanny ability to blend worlds. Players will move between early 20th-century England and the corrupted kingdom of Corolla, never knowing which setting holds greater danger. The game’s structure demands careful navigation, both physically and emotionally, as Lana unpicks the layers of betrayal and madness that define her search.

The timing of the release could not be more fitting. October has always been the season of shadows, and with Halloween looming, Bye Sweet Carole looks poised to dominate the horror gaming conversation. For those who crave unsettling stories wrapped in artistic beauty, the game might prove irresistible. But make no mistake—this is no fairy tale. This is a descent into a world where innocence dies quickly, and every step forward takes you closer to the abyss. With its haunting visuals, chilling sound design, and a storyline steeped in tragedy, Bye Sweet Carole is shaping up to be one of the most unique horror experiences in recent memory. Players should prepare to question what is real, what is illusion, and whether some friendships are worth walking into hell for
