Two men hospitalized in serious condition following an early morning attack in Easton; police implement enhanced stop and search powers

A knife attack in the Easton area of Bristol has led to the arrest of 11 individuals on suspicion of attempted murder. Cordon lines have been established in and around Rawnsley Park, including Stapleton Road and Easton Way.

In response to the attack, police secured enhanced “stop and search” powers. Superintendent Lisa Simpson authorized these measures under Section 60 and Section 60AA of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act. These powers, effective from 7 pm on June 9th, allow uniformed officers to stop and search any person or vehicle within a designated area to prevent further violence.

Superintendent Simpson emphasized the necessity of these powers, stating, “We do not underestimate the concerns of the local community following this recent incident of knife crime and serious violence in Bristol. It is because of this that we have made the decision to bring in the section 60 powers for our officers.”

The initial 24-hour authorization of these powers can be extended for an additional 24 hours by a superintendent.
