As speculations about Roberto De Zerbi’s future intensify, Brighton eyes Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna for a pivotal role.

Brighton & Hove Albion is actively scouting Kieran McKenna, the current Ipswich Town manager, as a prospective replacement for their head coach Roberto De Zerbi, who is rumoured to be on his way out this summer. This development comes as De Zerbi’s name continues to circulate among Europe’s top football clubs due to his successful tenure at Brighton.

Roberto De Zerbi, 44, has significantly uplifted Brighton’s performance since his arrival in September 2022, leading the team to a historic sixth place in the Premier League and securing European competition participation for the first time. However, despite his success, De Zerbi is linked with numerous prestigious coaching positions across Europe, with clubs like Liverpool and Bayern Munich reportedly showing interest. Although De Zerbi might not secure a position with these clubs, the uncertainty has prompted Brighton to explore future coaching options.

Kieran McKenna, aged 37, has made notable strides at Ipswich Town, potentially leading them to the Premier League if they manage to avoid defeat in their final Championship match against Huddersfield. His remarkable journey from managing Manchester United’s backroom under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to a celebrated head coach position illustrates his readiness for the Premier League.

Despite the allure of a Premier League coaching role, McKenna’s loyalty to Ipswich Town, who offered him his first managerial position, might influence his decision. This presents a potential challenge for Brighton in their bid to secure his services.

Brighton defender Joel Veltman acknowledges the ongoing speculation surrounding De Zerbi, noting, “It’s almost every year that when the gaffer is doing well, there will be big clubs waiting for him.” This sentiment underscores the recurring theme of successful coaches attracting attention from larger clubs.

The possibility of McKenna stepping into Brighton’s coaching role raises questions about his readiness for such a significant leap and the impact it would have on both teams involved. As the football community watches closely, Brighton’s preparations may soon be tested should they need to make an official approach for McKenna.
