Former major champion Angela Stanford to captain the U.S. at the 2026 Solheim Cup in the Netherlands.

Angela Stanford has been named captain of the United States team for the 2026 Solheim Cup, set to take place at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands from 11-13 September 2026.

The 47-year-old former major champion brings a wealth of experience, having served as an assistant captain in the prestigious women’s team event on three occasions, most recently in 2024 under Stacy Lewis. As a player, Stanford competed in six Solheim Cups between 2003 and 2015, playing a key role in Team USA’s success.

She was part of the last American team to win the Solheim Cup on European soil in Germany in 2015, where she secured the winning point with a 2&1 victory over Suzann Pettersen.

Stanford expressed her deep honour and excitement at leading the team.

“I’m extremely grateful to be named the next American captain for the Solheim Cup and join a list of my heroes in the game,” she said.

“I’ve always believed that I represent more than myself on the LPGA Tour, and there is no greater honour than representing your country. I consider this the pinnacle of my career and I’m looking forward to leading our players to the Netherlands.”

The United States reclaimed the Solheim Cup in 2024, securing their first win since 2017 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club. Stanford will now aim to defend the title against a Europe team captained by Anna Nordqvist.

After 24 years as a professional, Stanford retired in 2024 with seven LPGA Tour victories. She also holds the record for playing in 98 consecutive majors, the longest streak in LPGA history, with her lone major win coming at the Evian Championship in 2018.

As she takes on the role of captain, she brings both experience and determination, hoping to lead Team USA to another historic victory on foreign soil.
