Alpine F1’s strategic engineering recruitments aim for front-grid revival



Alpine F1 Team signs senior engineers from Red Bull and Ferrari to enhance technical capabilities and competitive position.

Alpine F1 Team has embarked on a significant restructuring initiative aimed at repositioning itself among Formula 1’s elite contenders. The recent appointments, effective immediately, introduce three pivotal figures to Alpine’s technical leadership. Michael Broadhurst, formerly principal aerodynamicist at Red Bull and deputy head of aerodynamics at McLaren, joins Alpine as chief aerodynamicist. Vin Dhanani, previously vehicle performance team leader at Red Bull, assumes the role of head of vehicle performance. Jacopo Fantoni, who held the position of head of simulation in Ferrari’s design office, steps into the role of deputy chief engineer at Alpine.

These appointments mark a strategic effort by Alpine to strengthen its core technical competencies across aerodynamics, vehicle performance, and engineering. According to an Alpine spokesperson, the team is committed to leveraging these additions to cultivate World Championship-winning potential and elevate their performance capabilities on the Formula 1 grid.

David Sanchez, Alpine’s executive technical director, has been instrumental in orchestrating these changes. Since his arrival, Sanchez has spearheaded a turnaround in Alpine’s performance trajectory, implementing innovative operational strategies and overseeing a rigorous program of weight reduction in the car design. These initiatives have effectively lifted Alpine from a position of struggling to qualify at the back of the grid to consistently securing points in recent races.

Sanchez’s impact extends beyond technical improvements; his leadership has stabilized Alpine amidst internal turbulence, including significant personnel changes and leadership transitions. Flavio Briatore’s return as executive advisor underscores the team’s commitment to stability and competitiveness under the strategic guidance of Renault CEO Luca de Meo.
