Ali G: Who Iz I? is in UK cinemas from Friday, rated 15 with one cut.
Sacha Baron Cohen's first Ali G film since Ali G Indahouse in 2002.
Yes, there's a new Ali G movie. Ali G: Who Iz I? opens in UK cinemas on Friday 23 October 2026, 24 years after Ali G Indahouse, and it's the first film Sacha Baron Cohen has directed himself.
It arrives with a 15 rating, a cut made for UK cinemas, no streaming date yet and a campaign asking cinemas not to show it. Here's what to know before you book.
When is the new Ali G movie coming out?
Friday 23 October 2026, in UK cinemas.
That's the release date on the film's BBFC listing. In the US, Amazon MGM Studios is billing the cinema run as "one weekend only". It hasn't said whether the UK run will be just as short, so if you want to see it on a big screen, this weekend is the safe bet.
Where can you watch Ali G: Who Iz I?
Only in cinemas for now. There's no streaming date yet.
Vue has it listed for booking. Picturehouse said in August it had no plans to show it, so check your local cinema before you travel.
It's an Amazon MGM Studios film, and World of Reel expects it on Prime Video soon after its cinema run. Amazon hasn't announced a date.
It isn't on Netflix, and as an Amazon film it isn't expected to be.
Is Ali G on Netflix?
No. Neither the new film nor Ali G Indahouse is on Netflix in the UK.
Ali G Indahouse is streaming on Prime Video in the UK, and you can rent it from £2.49 or buy it for £5.99, according to JustWatch. That's the easiest way to catch up before Friday.
What age rating is Ali G: Who Iz I?
It's a 15. The BBFC rated it for "strong sex references, crude humour, language, discrimination".
Dots as marked on the BBFC's content advice. The more that are filled, the more strongly that theme features.
The BBFC classified the film on 16 October, with a running time of 88 minutes 45 seconds.
Is the new Ali G movie banned?
No. It's rated 15 and showing in UK cinemas, but the UK version has been cut.
The BBFC lists one cut, made "in accordance with BBFC Guidelines, policy, and the Protection of Children Act 1978".
That law bans indecent images of anyone under 18, and the BBFC notes that it doesn't allow context to be taken into account. The BBFC doesn't say what was cut, and no reviews were out when we checked, so we don't know which scene it was.
The "banned" talk comes from a campaign urging UK cinemas to drop the film, and from Picturehouse saying it had no plans to screen it.
Who is in the new Ali G movie?
Sacha Baron Cohen plays Ali G and Morgana Robinson plays his girlfriend Julie. The BBFC also lists Stewart Rodeheaver.
In the BBFC's summary, Ali G heads to America to restart his career after finding out Julie is eight months pregnant. Kellie Bright played Julie in Ali G Indahouse.
Like the Borat films, it's a mockumentary, so much of it plays out with members of the public who didn't know what they were walking into. Baron Cohen wrote it with a team including Borat writers Anthony Hines, Peter Baynham and Dan Mazer.
What happened when Ali G went to Wimbledon?
He turned up in character at the Wimbledon men's final on Sunday 12 July, in a tracksuit printed "Official Ganja Dealer", and was challenged by security.
Clips went up on Ali G's official Instagram, as Chortle reported at the time. In a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Baron Cohen said he'd been thrown out. It hasn't been confirmed whether any Wimbledon footage made the finished film.

Why is there a backlash against the new Ali G movie?

- NewsCord, a media-monitoring group, says the satire is "a cover for enforcing racist stereotypes".
- Supporters sent more than 27,000 emails to UK cinema chains, NME reported in August.
- Picturehouse told Metro it had no plans to screen the film on release.
- He argues the prejudices his characters are built to expose have got worse, not better, which is why he brought Ali G back.
- He told The Hollywood Reporter: "I'm not surprised that prominent Jews are being targeted."
- When he shared the trailer, he joked that he was playing it safe by bringing the character back.
Is this Sacha Baron Cohen's last prank film?
He says so. He told The Hollywood Reporter that Who Iz I? will be his last film of this kind, citing the threats he has faced.
He has already ruled out a Borat 3, and his other 2026 film, Ladies First with Rosamund Pike, went to Netflix in May. So if this is the end of the secret-camera era, it ends where it started, with Ali G.
