Rapper Tory Lanez, serving a prison sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion, rushed to the hospital after being stabbed multiple times in a California prison
Rapper Tory Lanez has been hospitalised after being brutally stabbed 14 times in a California prison. The 32-year-old artist, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was attacked on Tuesday morning while in a housing unit at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, roughly 75 miles north of Los Angeles.
According to prison officials, Lanez suffered multiple stab wounds across his body, including his back, torso, head, and face. His injuries were severe enough to cause both of his lungs to collapse. However, an Instagram post from the rapper’s account provided a more hopeful update, stating that while he was temporarily placed on a breathing apparatus, he is now able to breathe on his own and is in good spirits despite the pain.
The post also revealed that Lanez has been able to speak normally and expressed gratitude for pulling through, saying he is “deeply thankful to God” for surviving the ordeal.
The stabbing occurred around 7:20 a.m. local time (3:20 p.m. GMT) in the prison’s housing unit. Pedro Calderón Michel, a spokesperson for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, confirmed that prison staff administered first aid before Lanez was transferred to a nearby medical facility for further treatment. Authorities have launched an investigation into the attack, though the motive remains unclear.
Lanez, a Canadian hip-hop artist, is currently serving a 10-year sentence after being convicted of three felony gun-related charges in 2023. The charges stemmed from a 2020 incident where he shot fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion at a party hosted by reality star Kylie Jenner. The two had been arguing inside a vehicle when Lanez fired shots, hitting Megan in both feet.

The case sparked widespread controversy within the hip-hop community, with some celebrities, including 50 Cent and Iggy Azalea, publicly voicing support for Lanez, while others stood by Megan. The division among rappers played out in court, where several musicians wrote letters advocating for leniency in Lanez’s sentencing.
Despite his conviction, Lanez remains a figure of considerable interest in the music world, having released seven top-10 albums in the years leading up to his incarceration. The rapper has also teased a new album, Peterson, which he plans to release from prison.
This prison attack adds another layer of drama to Lanez’s already controversial life. As the investigation into the stabbing continues, fans and critics alike are left wondering what’s next for the embattled rapper.
