Emergency services, including the London Ambulance Service, attended the scene, but the infant was declared dead. The baby’s gender and exact age have yet to be determined.

Authorities are now prioritising efforts to locate the baby’s mother, fearing for her physical and mental wellbeing.

Police Urge Mother to Come Forward

Superintendent Owen Renowden described the discovery as “extremely sad and shocking” and emphasised the importance of finding the baby’s mother.

“If you are the baby’s mother and are reading this, please come forward to police or medical professionals,” Renowden urged.

“You must feel very frightened, but please let us help – we are really worried about you and it is vitally important you get medical assistance and support. You can walk into any hospital or a police station.”

Investigation Ongoing

The Metropolitan Police have cordoned off the area around the church as investigations continue. Officers are reviewing CCTV footage and speaking with potential witnesses.

They are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area between 10:00 am and 12:30 pm on Tuesday to come forward with any relevant information.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the police immediately.
