Evenepoel crashes into a bpost vehicle in Belgium, suffering fractures to his ribs, shoulder, and hand, as his bike frame snaps.

Olympic gold medalist Remco Evenepoel has suffered multiple fractures following a crash while training in Belgium. The 24-year-old cyclist collided with the door of a postal vehicle in Oetingen, around 15 miles west of Brussels, causing him to fall heavily to the ground. Despite the severity of the crash, Evenepoel remained conscious but sustained fractures to his right ribs, shoulder blade, and hand.

Images from the scene showed Evenepoel’s gold-coloured bike lying in the road with its frame snapped in half. Emergency services quickly arrived, and Evenepoel was transported to a nearby hospital in Anderlecht for further evaluation and treatment.

Soudal-QuickStep, Evenepoel’s team, confirmed the injuries in a statement: “Following an incident while training today, Remco Evenepoel was taken to hospital where it was revealed that he has sustained fractures to his rib, right shoulder blade and his right hand.” Team manager Patrick Lefevere added: “Remco has pain in his shoulder and his hand. Our doctor is working on it. His bike broke in two in that incident. But it’s better to split his bike in two than his arm.”

Evenepoel’s crash has raised concerns about his recovery and the impact on his racing schedule. The incident occurred as the cyclist was preparing for the upcoming season, and his injuries are expected to require careful management and recovery time.

Despite the setback, Evenepoel’s resilience is expected to play a key role in his rehabilitation, as the two-time Olympic champion continues his recovery from what could have been a far more serious accident.
