Meta has officially begun rolling out its advanced AI chatbot in India. This new development means users will soon have access to Meta AI across multiple platforms, including WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and the meta.ai website. The chatbot, powered by the Llama 3 large language model (LLM), was introduced in April and quickly made available in several countries.

In a recent newsroom announcement, Meta confirmed the rollout of its AI chatbot in India. Although the rollout has commenced, it may take a few days before all users can see and use the feature. The delayed launch in India is speculated to be related to the ongoing general elections, although Meta has not provided an official explanation.

Once fully implemented, users will notice a blue-pink ring in the search bar of Meta-owned apps. Clicking on this ring will direct users to a separate chat with the AI, where they can ask questions, generate content, or seek information. On WhatsApp, the AI can be added to group chats and can interact with messages where it is tagged. Notably, Meta AI has the capability to access both Google and Bing to fetch answers that require a web search.

Meta AI boasts a range of functionalities. It can recommend restaurants, plan trips, assist with homework, write code, provide overviews of various topics, and generate emails, messages, letters, and essays. Additionally, users can engage with Meta AI while scrolling through Facebook posts. Each post will have an “Ask Meta AI” icon that, when tapped, offers more information about the post’s content.

The chatbot currently supports only the English language. To use Meta AI, users need an account on any Meta platform, and the feature is available for free.
