The actor opens up about his pet’s respiratory issues and the surprising cost of veterinary care on Lorraine

Daniel Brocklebank, known for his role as Billy Mayhew on ITV’s Coronation Street, recently opened up about a distressing experience involving his rescue dog, Jean. The actor shared the details of his ordeal during an appearance on the show Lorraine, hosted by Christine Lampard. Brocklebank, who plays a central role in a poignant storyline on the soap, took a moment to discuss his life away from the cameras, revealing the challenges he faced with Jean’s health and the unexpected costs of veterinary care.

Jean, who has been with Brocklebank since her adoption, suddenly experienced severe respiratory problems, leading to an urgent visit to the vet. The initial treatment cost amounted to £500, but Brocklebank was stunned when the total bill skyrocketed to £2000 after further care. The cost of keeping Jean for an additional 24 hours alone was quoted at £600. Upon requesting an itemized bill, Brocklebank expressed his shock at seeing a £27 charge for a simple paracetamol, highlighting the steep markup on medications.

Christine Lampard echoed the actor’s surprise at the vet costs, emphasizing the financial shock such incidents can bring to pet owners. The British Veterinary Association responded by stating that veterinary practices, like any business, must charge appropriately to remain operational and provide specialized care for animals.

Despite the ordeal, Brocklebank continues to share his life with three rescue dogs, showcasing his commitment to animal welfare. His affection for his pets is evident through his regular updates on social media, where he affectionately refers to them as “the kids.” Brocklebank’s experience has sparked conversations about the costs of veterinary care and the lengths pet owners will go to for their beloved animals.
