Man faces charges for shooting at vehicles on Wichita highway

The incident on I-235 leads to multiple charges, including assault and criminal discharge of a firearm

In Wichita, Kansas, a concerning incident unfolded as a man was charged for allegedly shooting at cars along Interstate 235. The Wichita Police Department responded to a distressing call in the early hours, around 2 a.m., on Friday, reporting gunfire targeting vehicles near Zoo Boulevard.

According to the police, the situation involved three victims who, fortunately, escaped physical injury from the gunfire. The suspect, identified as Kamil Lweno, was apprehended at the scene and subsequently taken into custody at the Sedgwick County Jail.

The charges against Lweno are serious, including three counts of criminal discharge of a firearm aimed recklessly at occupied vehicles, aggravated assault employing a deadly weapon, and causing criminal damage to property. These allegations reflect the grave danger posed to the public during the incident.

In a recent court appearance, the bond for Lweno was set at $500,000. He is scheduled for a follow-up court appearance on April 1, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., where the case will proceed through the judicial system.
