Incident on “Blow” set resurfaces, Glaudini recounts berating, Depp’s team offers different view

In a revelation that has reignited discussions about on-set behaviour in Hollywood, actor Lola Glaudini recently shared her unsettling experience with Johnny Depp during the filming of “Blow” on the “Powerful Truth Angels” podcast. According to Glaudini, Depp berated her for laughing during a scene, following directions she received from the director, Ted Demme, to react with laughter to one of Depp’s lines. This encounter marked a significant moment for Glaudini, who was making her studio film debut after working in independent cinema.

Glaudini described a tense and upsetting confrontation where Depp, after a scene, aggressively questioned her behaviour and demanded silence while he was performing. The actor recalled Depp’s harsh words and his finger pointing inches from her face, a moment that left her struggling to maintain composure and not cry. This episode, she said, made her feel alienated on set, affecting her interactions with others involved in the production.

Responding to Glaudini’s account, a representative for Johnny Depp told Variety that Depp always aims to maintain positive working relationships on set, implying that this narrative differs significantly from others’ memories of the incident. Samuel Sarkar, a sound technician on “Blow” who has worked closely with Depp on multiple projects, supported this stance, stating he never witnessed such behaviour, which he claimed would have been notable.

Depp’s reported attempt at reconciliation later the same day took the form of what Glaudini called a “non-apology apology,” citing his immersion in his character and the tension it caused him as reasons for his earlier outburst. Despite the discomfort, Glaudini chose to downplay the incident, following advice from her father to never “let them see you sweat.”

This account and the responses it has elicited shed light on the complexities of navigating power dynamics and emotional stress in high-stakes creative environments. The differing recollections and perspectives highlight the challenges in fully understanding such incidents, underscoring the importance of communication and respect in maintaining a professional and supportive working atmosphere in the film industry.
