Kentucky student’s unexplained injuries and lapse in consciousness spark investigation and parental outcry for answers
In a baffling incident last November, Isabella Willingham, a 21-year-old student at Asbury University in Kentucky, was found in a dire state, having ceased breathing for an alarming 23 minutes. The discovery was made on 27 November, after the student had returned to her campus dormitory following Thanksgiving celebrations.
Willingham was found by her roommate, unresponsive, bearing deep cuts and bruises. The severity of her condition necessitated immediate hospitalization in the intensive care unit, as reported by Lex18. The mysterious circumstances surrounding her injuries have left both her family and authorities searching for answers.
Andy Willingham, Isabella’s father, recounted the distressing moment he was informed of his daughter’s condition. He told Lex18, “At 11 that night, we get a call from the resident director of her dorm, and she tells us that Bella is in an ambulance on her way to the emergency room, that she had been found unresponsive on the floor of her room by her roommate.”
The perplexity of the situation was compounded by the discovery that Isabella’s acrylic nails had been torn off, adding to the puzzle of what had transpired during those critical minutes. After a two-week recovery period at the University of Kentucky Hospital, the family’s quest for clarity persists.
The Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office has initiated an investigation to unravel the mystery behind Isabella’s injuries. Her father remains adamant that the wounds could not have been self-inflicted, stating, “There’s no way these could’ve been caused by anything other than someone doing something to her.”
The response of Asbury University has come under scrutiny from the Willingham family, who criticize the institution’s delay in alerting the campus community to the potential danger. “As a parent, I want to know if there’s a possibility of someone coming into the school or campus being potentially dangerous,” expressed Mr. Willingham.
