Innovating beyond 5G, Jio eyes the future with 6G core technology

In a significant move forward in telecommunications technology, Reliance Jio, India’s premier telecom operator, is making headlines with its active participation in the research and development (R&D) of sixth-generation (6G) technology. Aayush Bhatnagar, Senior Vice President at Jio Platforms Limited, shared insights on Jio’s groundbreaking work on developing a 6G Core, setting a new benchmark for the future of connectivity.

At the forefront of technological evolution, Jio’s efforts align with the global standards set by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP)’s Release 17 and Release 18. These standards are crucial stepping stones toward realizing the full potential of 5G Advanced and 6G technologies. Bhatnagar emphasized the pivotal role of these releases in making 6G a tangible reality for consumers and enterprises alike.

Speaking at the seventh edition of the ETTelecom 5G | 6G Congress 2024, Bhatnagar highlighted several key technology enablers integral to 6G communications. These include intelligent reflective services, joint communication and sensing, and quantum encryption. These innovative technologies are instrumental in crafting a 6G ecosystem that promises unprecedented connectivity solutions.

The congress, a mega event in the national capital, saw nearly 400 delegates and over 40 speakers. Discussions spanned a wide range of topics, from network transformation to the next generation of technology, underscoring the industry’s commitment to advancing telecommunications.

Bhatnagar’s vision for 6G is boundless, with endless use cases limited only by imagination. This futuristic outlook is backed by Jio’s successful commercialization of indigenously developed 5G technology, a testament to India’s capability in scaling and delivering high-quality technological solutions. Jio’s achievements reflect the “Make in India” initiative’s success, resonating with the vision of India’s Prime Minister for homegrown innovation.

As Jio continues to pave the way in 6G development, the implications for both consumers and enterprises are monumental. With a commitment to innovation and excellence, Jio is not just preparing for the future of telecommunications but is actively shaping it.
