Green Bay parts ways with third-leading rusher in franchise history, Aaron Jones, after seven seasons with the team

In a significant move, the Green Bay Packers have announced the release of running back Aaron Jones. General Manager Brian Gutekunst confirmed the transaction on Monday, expressing gratitude for Jones’ contributions to the team and the community during his tenure.

Jones, originally drafted by the Packers in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft from the University of Texas-El Paso, leaves behind an impressive legacy in Green Bay. Over the course of his seven seasons with the team, Jones appeared in 97 regular-season games, starting in 85 of them, and contributed to seven postseason contests.

His accomplishments include being the only player in NFL history to achieve milestones such as 5,000-plus rushing yards, 45-plus rushing touchdowns, 250-plus receptions, and 2,000-plus receiving yards in his first seven seasons. Jones also holds several franchise records, including average yards per carry, and ranks in the top five in rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, and other categories.

Jones’ notable performance in the 2020 season earned him a Pro Bowl selection, where he ranked among the league leaders in rushing yards and touchdowns. Throughout his time in Green Bay, Jones played a pivotal role in the team’s success, helping them secure three division titles and making four playoff appearances, including two trips to the NFC title game.
