Slimmer than a bus: Tiny one-bedroom house in Brighton hits the market for £280,000

A remarkably narrow one-bedroom house in Brighton has been listed for sale at £280,000, boasting dimensions even slimmer than a standard UK bus. This petite property spans a mere 220 cm in width, in contrast to a bus’s 255cm (approximately 8 ft 4 inches).

Distributed across three levels, this one-bedroom house offers a compact floor plan totalling just 405 sq ft, which includes the outdoor courtyard. The ground floor features the bedroom with built-in wardrobes and an adjacent bathroom. Moving up to the second floor, you’ll find the kitchen-diner, while the top floor hosts a cosy 20 ft living room that offers “superb far-reaching views,” as stated in the listing.

The agents at Pearson Keehan, responsible for the property sale, suggest that this chain-free, freehold property would be an ideal choice for first-time buyers or as a holiday rental investment. However, some observers have noted an unconventional feature – it lacks a traditional front door and instead features a bi-fold option.

One Reddit user commented, “Not even got a bloody front door!” Another remarked, “I have a soft spot for tiny houses. It’s just a shame they don’t come with a tiny price.”

Speculation also arose about the property’s history, with one individual speculating, “Looks like it was part of the house next to it, but the owner went out of their way to paint it white, modify the front window and door to make it seem separate.”

Despite its size, the home is conveniently located within easy reach of Brighton’s City Centre and the renowned North Laine district, known for its cafes, shops, and restaurants. The Brighton Mainline Railway Station, offering direct connections to London and Gatwick, is approximately 0.9 miles away.

This slim abode isn’t the only “skinny home” to make headlines in recent years. Last year, a seven-foot-wide townhouse in Bristol was listed for sale at £325,000, while the previous year saw a London home, less than 9ft wide, on the market for a staggering £1.3 million.
