Hollywood legend opens up about keeping a low profile for her children

Renowned Hollywood actress Jodie Foster recently revealed a surprising detail about her parenting approach, explaining why she kept her profession hidden from her children when they were younger. Despite her illustrious career in the film industry, Foster preferred her sons to view her as a regular mom rather than a famous actress.

Speaking on The View panel, the Silence of the Lambs star shared her perspective, stating, “I guess I just didn’t want them to know me that way. I wanted them to know me as their mom and the person who went away to work and stuff. I just didn’t want them to be confused about what I did for a living.”

Foster disclosed that during her sons’ early years, she went to great lengths to maintain a sense of normalcy. She recounted an amusing anecdote of bringing her older son, Charlie, then three, to set and presenting him with a toy tool belt, effectively leading him to believe she worked as a construction worker.

“I brought him to set one day and I bought him a little plastic tool belt and stuff. And I was like, ‘Yeah, and this is this set and this set and this set.’ And for a really long time, he thought I was a construction worker,” she recalled.

While Foster did not specify when her children learned the truth about her acting career, she emphasized the importance of providing her sons with a grounded upbringing. Charlie, now 25, has followed in his mother’s footsteps, engaging in theater throughout school.

In a recent interview with the Guardian, Foster also shared her perspective on working with the younger generation, expressing frustration with what she perceives as a lack of discipline and commitment. Despite the challenges, Foster remains passionate about guiding young talents and helping them discover their unique creative paths.
