New trailer reveals disturbing twist in Lee Cronin’s horror remake of The Mummy
A new trailer for Lee Cronin’s reimagining of The Mummy has been released, offering a darker and more disturbing take on the classic monster story.
The film, directed and written by Cronin, is set to arrive in cinemas on 17 April, with screenings also planned in IMAX. Tickets for the release are now on sale, with special screenings scheduled a day earlier.
The trailer introduces a haunting premise centred on a family tragedy that takes a sinister turn. In the story, a journalist’s young daughter disappears in the desert without a trace. Years pass with no answers, leaving the family broken by the loss.
Eight years later, the missing child is suddenly returned to her family. What appears to be a moment of relief and reunion quickly transforms into something far more unsettling, as the situation begins to unfold in an unexpected and disturbing way.
The film brings together a cast that includes Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, May Calamawy, Natalie Grace and Veronica Falcón. Their performances form the core of a narrative that blends emotional trauma with elements of horror.
Cronin, known for his work on Evil Dead Rise, reunites with several collaborators from that project. The production team includes cinematographer Dave Garbett, production designer Nick Bassett, editor Bryan Shaw and composer Stephen McKeon.
The film is produced by James Wan, Jason Blum and John Keville, with Cronin also serving as an executive producer alongside Michael Clear, Judson Scott and Macdara Kelleher. It is a collaboration between Blumhouse-Atomic Monster and New Line Cinema.
Special advance screenings will take place on 16 April at AMC Dolby Cinema locations. These showings will include pre-show surprises, as well as a collectible poster for those attending.
The tone of the film is reflected in its official rating. It has been given an R rating for strong disturbing violent content, gore, language and brief drug use, indicating a more intense approach compared to previous interpretations of the story.
The trailer highlights Cronin’s focus on creating a horror-driven retelling rather than a traditional adventure narrative. The imagery and atmosphere suggest a film that leans heavily into unsettling themes and psychological tension.
By reworking the familiar story through a darker lens, the film aims to present a new perspective on the classic character. The emphasis on a family’s experience, combined with elements of mystery and horror, forms the basis of the narrative.
With its release approaching, the film is positioned as a significant entry in the horror genre, building on Cronin’s previous work and collaborations.
The trailer sets the stage for a story that moves from loss to reunion, before shifting into something far more disturbing, as the film prepares to reach audiences in cinemas later this month.
