Guy Ritchie’s The Grey trailer reveals Cavill and Gyllenhaal on a deadly heist mission
The first trailer for Guy Ritchie’s upcoming thriller In The Grey has finally arrived, offering a dramatic glimpse at Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal as elite operatives sent on a dangerous mission.
The film has been a long time coming. Nearly three years ago, reports first emerged that Cavill, Gyllenhaal and Eiza González had joined forces for what was then described as Ritchie’s next project. Production began roughly two and a half years ago in Tenerife.
Since then, the filmmaker has been anything but idle, releasing multiple projects across film and television. Now, in 2026, In The Grey is finally preparing to reach audiences.
The newly released teaser introduces Cavill and Gyllenhaal as highly trained operatives working in the shadows of global power. Their characters operate in a world where influence, strategy and firepower are equally essential tools.
Eiza González appears alongside them, guiding the team through a high-risk operation that quickly spirals into something far more dangerous than expected.
The story centres on a covert group of elite operatives tasked with retrieving a stolen fortune worth a billion dollars. The money has been taken by a ruthless despot, forcing the team to undertake what is described as an almost impossible mission.
Their assignment seems straightforward at first: steal the money back.
But the operation rapidly escalates into a much larger confrontation. What begins as a daring heist turns into a complex battle involving strategy, deception and survival.
According to the official synopsis, the team must navigate a world where danger lurks in every decision.
“In The Grey follows a covert team of elite operatives who live in the global shadows, as comfortable wielding power and influence as they are automatic weapons and high explosives,” the synopsis explains.
“When a ruthless despot steals a billion-dollar fortune, the team is sent to steal it back on what would be for anyone else a suicide mission.”
The trailer hints that the mission soon grows far more chaotic than planned.
“What begins as an impossible heist gets much worse, spiralling into an all-out war of strategy, deception and survival,” the synopsis adds.
The film brings together a group of actors who have previously collaborated with Ritchie on other projects.
Henry Cavill has worked with the director on The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Eiza González also appeared alongside Cavill in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and in last year’s Fountain of Youth.
Jake Gyllenhaal previously teamed up with Ritchie for the war drama Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant.
The cast also features Rosamund Pike and Kristofer Hivju, adding further star power to the action-packed thriller.
The trailer suggests that In The Grey will feature many elements that fans have come to expect from a Guy Ritchie film.
Rapid-fire dialogue, sharp humour and morally complicated characters appear throughout the footage. The story places a group of dangerous individuals against equally dangerous enemies, creating a tense clash between rival forces.
With Cavill and Gyllenhaal sharing the screen for the first time in this type of high-stakes action setting, anticipation around the project has continued to grow.
After years of waiting, audiences will finally see how the mission unfolds when In The Grey reaches cinemas in the United States on 15 May.
