The 27-year-old joins on a two-year contract after leading Northants’ wicket charts on loan

Northamptonshire have signed all-rounder Calvin Harrison from Nottinghamshire on a two-year contract after a successful loan spell at Wantage Road during the 2025 season.

The 27-year-old leg-spinner impressed in red-ball cricket, finishing as Northamptonshire’s leading wicket-taker in the County Championship with 36 wickets from 10 matches. He also contributed 456 runs at an average of 32.57, including a standout innings of 122 against Kent in July.

Harrison’s performances made a strong impression on head coach Darren Lehmann, who described him as a player central to the club’s future.

“We see him as a leader within our group moving forward,” said Lehmann. “He provides a lot of options for us with bat, ball and in the field, so we’re over the moon that he’s continuing his development with us. He’s putting trust in what we are doing and building, and that’s very pleasing from the club’s point of view.”

Harrison joined Nottinghamshire in 2021 after earlier spells with Oxford MCCU and Hampshire. He took 103 wickets across all formats for the Trent Bridge side but featured in only one County Championship fixture during the 2025 campaign, in which Nottinghamshire secured their first title since 2010.

Confirming his release, Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores said the decision reflected both the club’s depth and Harrison’s desire to play more first-class cricket.

“It’s always a tough decision when we have to let a player go, but it’s part of the modern cricketing landscape,” said Moores. “Calvin’s keen to play more four-day cricket, so we’ve agreed to his release to allow him to continue his development.”

Harrison, who has also featured in The Hundred for Trent Rockets and Manchester Originals, said he was delighted to make his move to Northamptonshire permanent after enjoying his loan stint under Lehmann.

“After being on loan with Northamptonshire this summer, I’m looking forward to joining on a full-time basis,” he said. “I enjoyed working with Boof [Lehmann] and the whole coaching team, and I’m hoping to help contribute to us going on and winning trophies.”

Harrison’s arrival marks another step in Northamptonshire’s bid to rebuild after a difficult start to the decade. The county, who narrowly avoided relegation last season, have targeted experienced yet improving players to strengthen their core ahead of the 2026 campaign.

Lehmann, who took over as head coach last winter, has emphasised a strategy based on long-term consistency rather than short-term fixes. Harrison’s mix of control and attacking leg-spin, combined with his growing reliability with the bat, is expected to give Northants greater flexibility in selection across formats.

A former Oxford MCCU captain, Harrison has been widely regarded as one of county cricket’s more versatile modern players. His ability to contribute in all three facets of the game has made him a valued figure in franchise competitions, but his move to Northamptonshire suggests a renewed focus on four-day cricket and leadership within a developing squad.
