24-year-old Brit star reassures fans after collapsing on stage at New York festival

British singer Lola Young has reassured fans she is “doing OK now” after collapsing mid-performance at a New York music festival on Saturday.

The 24-year-old artist was appearing at the All Things Go NYC festival when she dropped her microphone and fell backwards on stage. The incident left the audience stunned and sparked concern across social media, as footage of her collapse quickly spread online.

Moments before, Young had told the crowd she had endured “a tricky couple of days” due to what she described as a “sensitive matter.” She added, “Sometimes life throws you lemons,” before urging fans to “make lemonade.”

In clips shared online, Young appeared visibly uncomfortable while performing Conceited from her second album This Wasn’t Meant For You Anyway. She stumbled, then fell, as stage crew rushed to her aid.

Posting later on Instagram, she moved quickly to calm fears. “Hi, for anyone who saw my set at All Things Go today, I am doing OK now,” she wrote, thanking fans for their supportive messages.

Her collapse followed the cancellation of a scheduled appearance at New Jersey’s Prudential Centre the previous night. She gave no further detail about her health, but fans and fellow performers rallied in support.

Rapper Doechii, who took to the stage after Young, led the crowd in chanting “We love you, Lola” and praised her as “an incredibly talented artist.” She told the audience that Young had not been feeling well before going on stage.

The South London-born singer, a graduate of the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology — whose alumni include Adele, Jessie J and Raye — has enjoyed a rapid rise over the past two years.

Her breakout single Messy topped charts in the UK, Australia, Belgium, Croatia, Ireland and Israel in 2024, becoming a Gen Z anthem that went viral on TikTok. The success made her the youngest British artist to secure a number one single since rapper Dave in 2022, and the youngest British woman to do so since Dua Lipa in 2017.

Young has since cemented her reputation as one of Britain’s most exciting new stars. Her distinct mix of raw vocals, candid lyrics and sharp pop sensibility has won her critical acclaim, while her style and charisma have made her a fixture at cultural events. She recently performed at London Fashion Week, taking the stage during H&M’s show at 180 Strand.

Despite Saturday’s scare, no further performances have been cancelled, and her team has not indicated any long-term disruption to her schedule. Fans, however, remain watchful, with many posting messages urging the singer to take care of her health.

For Young, the collapse is a stark reminder of the pressures of life on tour. Balancing global fame, heavy performance demands and personal challenges can take a toll, even for artists at the peak of their careers.

Her quick reassurance has provided comfort, but the images of her fall continue to circulate — a sobering moment in what has so far been a meteoric career.
