In a sidesplitting incident that has once again captured the attention of social media users, an unsuspecting spectator became the center of attention at the Evian Championship in Évian-les-Bains, France. The blunder, caught on camera, has left golf enthusiasts both bewildered and amused.

During the tournament in July 2022, American golfer Nelly Korda found herself facing an unexpected twist when a stroke led her ball to an unconventional landing spot—amongst the trees and a walking path. What followed was an unforgettable moment as a spectator, seemingly unaware of the rules, decided to claim the golf ball as an unlikely souvenir.

The footage, which has resurfaced online, showcases the woman joyfully strolling away with the golf ball, leaving commentators at a loss for words. Commentator Grant Boone, clearly exasperated, declared, “It’s not a souvenir!” as the woman’s actions unfolded, setting the stage for an unforeseen turn of events.

The situation took a more serious turn when an official promptly confronted the oblivious spectator, instructing her to return the golf ball to its original position. With a mortified expression, she complied, grasping the magnitude of her blunder.

The comical clip has since garnered over 1.3 million views on various platforms, with viewers expressing a range of reactions from shock to hysterical laughter. Social media users couldn’t resist adding their own humorous commentary to the mix.

One user joked, “Hahaha, she should’ve tossed it closer to the green. Just so we could see them debate rules for the rest of 2023.” Another chimed in, “She thought this was Cricket, where everybody would struggle to be the one to catch the ball.”

Notably, some defended the unwitting woman, speculating, “I read that the course borders a popular walking area. She probably knows nothing about the game.” However, others took a more critical stance, prompting discussions on the incident’s severity.

Upon learning of the incident, Nelly Korda, the golfer at the center of the mishap, was granted a better lie at the scene. Ultimately, the incident didn’t prove too detrimental to Korda’s performance, as she went on to double bogey—the only one she carded throughout the 72 holes of the event.

As the clip continues to circulate online, this golfing faux pas serves as a lighthearted reminder for fans and spectators alike: at a golf tournament, it’s wise to leave the golf balls where they lie.
