Billie Eilish steals the show at the 2025 American Music Awards with seven major wins

The 2025 American Music Awards lit up Las Vegas in a spectacular celebration of music’s finest, with Billie Eilish reigning supreme. The singer swept all seven categories she was nominated in, including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year, making her the undisputed queen of the evening.

Broadcast from the bustling Vegas Strip, the ceremony was packed with powerhouse performances, emotional tributes, and some long-overdue recognitions. Jennifer Lopez returned as host after a decade, opening with a fiery medley of the year’s biggest chart-toppers.

Eilish took home awards for her critically acclaimed album Hit Me Hard and Soft and her hit single Birds of a Feather, proving her crossover appeal across pop and touring categories. It was a clean sweep that left fans and critics buzzing.

Beyoncé, meanwhile, made AMAs history by winning Favorite Female Country Artist and Favorite Country Album for Cowboy Carter, affirming her genre-bending prowess. Post Malone grabbed his first country nod for Favorite Male Country Artist, while Eminem returned to the winner’s circle for the first time in 15 years, collecting Favorite Male Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Hip-Hop Album for The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce).

The night also celebrated new talent, with Gracie Abrams taking home New Artist of the Year, beating out Chappell Roan and Benson Boone. Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’s duet Die With A Smile landed them Favorite Music Video and Collaboration of the Year. Gaga added another trophy to her shelf with Favorite Dance/Electronic Artist, while Mars was named Favorite Male Pop Artist.

But perhaps the most heartfelt moments came with the honouring of legends. Janet Jackson, receiving the Icon Award, delivered her first televised performance in seven years, energising the crowd with a mash-up of her classic hits. “I don’t consider myself an icon,” Jackson said humbly. “Music, dancing, and singing were always our family’s dream—fame just came along for the ride.”

Closing the show was Rod Stewart, honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Five of his children presented the trophy before he sang Forever Young, visibly moved. “All I wanted was to sing,” he told the audience. “I never dreamed of this.”Performances ranged from Blake Shelton’s opening with Stay Country or Die Tryin’ to Gloria Estefan electrifying the stage with a Latin-flavoured medley. Renee Rapp, Becky G, Gwen Stefani, and others ensured there wasn’t a dull moment.
