André’s stoppage-time strike seals dramatic Wolves win after Salah’s late equaliser

Wolves snatched a dramatic late victory over Liverpool at Molineux, with André scoring a stoppage-time winner that left the visitors stunned.

Just when it appeared Mohamed Salah had rescued a point for Liverpool, André’s deflected effort in the 94th minute secured a 2–1 victory for Wolves. The goal delivered Wolves their second Premier League win in five days after waiting six months for their first league victory earlier in the season.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot looked devastated at the final whistle. The defeat marked the fifth time this season his side had conceded a decisive goal in stoppage time.

For Wolves head coach Rob Edwards, the moment triggered another emotional celebration on the touchline. After Wolves secured victory against Aston Villa days earlier, Edwards admitted he had injured his calf celebrating the goal. At Molineux, he once again sprinted down the sideline in jubilation following André’s late strike.

The winning moment began with an uncertain clearance from Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson. Jackson Tchatchoua headed the ball back into the danger area, where André collected possession around 35 yards from goal.

The midfielder fired a shot from outside the penalty area that took a deflection off Joe Gomez before beating Alisson and sending the home crowd into celebration.

Players from both teams reacted in starkly different ways. Wolves players piled together near the South Bank stand, while Liverpool defenders stood motionless. Gomez pulled his shirt over his face as the reality of the defeat set in.

Earlier in the match, Wolves had taken the lead with 12 minutes remaining. Rodrigo Gomes finished off a well-worked attack with a precise strike that lifted the ball beyond Alisson.

The move exposed Liverpool’s defence, with Virgil van Dijk caught out as Wolves surged forward. Substitute Tolu Arokodare played a key role in the build-up, positioning himself between Van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté before laying the ball into the path of Rodrigo Gomes.

Gomes then burst into the space and toe-poked a finish over the advancing goalkeeper.

Liverpool struggled for large periods of the match and produced little threat in the opening half. Cody Gakpo’s shot straight at José Sá and a speculative effort from Dominik Szoboszlai were among the few moments of attacking intent before the interval.

Manager Arne Slot attempted to change the momentum at half-time by introducing Curtis Jones in place of Ryan Gravenberch. Jones quickly became involved in the action during a chaotic corner shortly after the restart.

Hugo Ekitiké flicked the ball on at the near post, and Jones appeared ready to finish at the far post. However, Gakpo inadvertently intervened and hooked the ball against Jones’s chest. The ball then looped upward and struck the underside of the crossbar with Sá behind his own goal line.

Despite that near miss, Liverpool continued to struggle to find rhythm.

Salah eventually provided a breakthrough for the visitors. After a quiet display for much of the match, the Egyptian forward produced a moment of quality, beating Sá with a creative strike using the outside of his left boot to level the score.

Moments earlier, Salah had also missed an opportunity to set up an unmarked Szoboszlai during a promising attack.

Liverpool looked briefly energised after the equaliser, but Wolves had the final word.

André’s late strike sealed the victory and sparked scenes of celebration among the home supporters.

The result leaves Liverpool facing further pressure ahead of their next meeting with Wolves. The two teams will face each other again at Molineux on Friday in the FA Cup fifth round.

Edwards acknowledged the upcoming clash could be even more intense after the dramatic league encounter.
