Max Verstappen secures the fastest time at the 2024 United States Grand Prix Sprint qualifying, marking a strong comeback for Red Bull Racing.

In a triumphant return to form, Max Verstappen delivered a stellar performance during the Sprint Qualifying session at the 2024 United States Grand Prix, sending shockwaves through the paddock and prompting Red Bull Racing advisor Helmut Marko to declare, “Red Bull is back.”

After a challenging five-month spell where the team struggled to replicate their dominant performances, Verstappen clinched the fastest time at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA). This achievement not only highlights his exceptional driving but also signifies a much-needed resurgence for Red Bull, whose last qualifying session victory came at the Austrian Grand Prix earlier this year.

Throughout Friday’s practice and qualifying sessions, Verstappen appeared in control, finishing a commendable third in the practice run behind the two Ferrari drivers. This performance set the stage for a confident showing in the sprint event. The Milton Keynes-based team introduced several updates to their RB20 car, including a modified floor edge and a reprofiled upper surface on the sidepod. These enhancements aimed to address the balance issues that had plagued the car during the mid-season slump.

Marko, visibly pleased with the day’s results, remarked, “I would say Red Bull is back. Yes, Red Bull is back.” His sentiments reflected the optimism within the team as they finally seemed to grasp the performance issues that had hindered them for so long.

Verstappen’s prowess was on full display as he narrowly edged out George Russell by a mere 0.012 seconds to secure the top spot for the upcoming points-paying 19-lap race. With championship rival Lando Norris qualifying in fourth, Verstappen’s victory in Sprint Qualifying puts him in an advantageous position as the drivers gear up for the main event.

As he returned to the pits, Verstappen shared his enthusiasm with race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase and team principal Christian Horner over the radio, exclaiming, “Let’s go! Nice one. Happy with that, thank you guys. A good return after a little break, well done.” His words encapsulated the relief and excitement felt within the team after a prolonged period of uncertainty.

The improvements made to the RB20 appear to have revitalised Verstappen’s confidence and performance, leaving fans and team members alike optimistic for the main race. The successful upgrades have not only reinstated the car’s competitive edge but also reignited the team’s fighting spirit as they look to finish the season strongly.

With the atmosphere buzzing and the stakes high, all eyes will be on Verstappen and Red Bull as they head into the race. Can they maintain this momentum and secure the victory that has eluded them for months? As the race day approaches, the anticipation grows, with many hoping to see a return to the championship-winning form that defined the early part of the season.

As the world of Formula 1 watches closely, Red Bull’s resurgence may signal a turning point in the season, paving the way for an electrifying finale to the championship battle.
