U.S. Marshals protecting Justice Sonia Sotomayor opened fire on an 18-year-old attempting to carjack them in Northwest DC

In a dramatic early morning incident, U.S. marshals assigned to protect Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s residence in Washington, D.C., shot and wounded an 18-year-old suspect during an attempted carjacking. According to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), the incident occurred around 1:15 a.m. in the Northwest neighbourhood.

Law enforcement sources revealed that the marshals were stationed in separate vehicles when Kentrell Flowers, 18, from Southeast D.C., exited a vehicle and approached one of the marshals while brandishing a handgun. The teenager reportedly aimed the firearm at the marshal in what appeared to be an attempt to steal the vehicle.

In response to the imminent threat, the marshal drew his own weapon and discharged several rounds. Another marshal, stationed nearby, also fired at Flowers. The suspect sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening and was promptly transported to a hospital for treatment. Fortunately, neither of the marshals involved in the altercation sustained injuries.

The U.S. Marshals Service verified that the marshals involved were part of the specialized unit responsible for safeguarding the homes of Supreme Court justices.

Flowers now faces serious charges including armed carjacking, carrying a pistol without a license, and possession of a large-capacity ammunition-feeding device. As of now, there is no information available regarding his legal representation.
