After two consecutive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, Tyson Fury hints at stepping away from the ring, leaving fans wondering about his future in boxing
Tyson Fury, once the undefeated heavyweight champion, has sparked fresh retirement rumours following his consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024. The 36-year-old fighter, who had been aiming for an undisputed heavyweight championship, saw his dreams dashed after a split-decision defeat in May 2024, followed by a more decisive loss in their rematch last month.
In the wake of his setbacks, Fury made ambiguous statements about his future, leaving fans uncertain about his next steps. After his second defeat to Usyk in Saudi Arabia, Fury stated, “What’s next for me? I’m going home and having some time off.” When pressed on whether he would fight again, he added, “You might do, you might not. Who knows? We’ll talk about that next year.”
Despite the uncertainty in his comments, close friends of the boxing icon have reportedly been told by Fury that “It’s not over.” This statement suggests that retirement might not be a foregone conclusion, despite his earlier remarks.

In 2013, after a failed fight with David Haye, he declared his retirement from boxing, citing corruption within the sport. However, he returned to the ring just months later, continuing his successful career. In 2022, after his victory over Dillian Whyte, Fury once again announced his retirement, claiming he had nothing left to prove. He promised his wife, Paris, that he would walk away from the sport, stating, “I’m a two-time undisputed world champion, £150m in the bank, and nothing to prove to anybody.”
Yet, despite these declarations, the prospect of Fury’s return to the ring remains a tantalizing possibility. Only time will tell whether the Gypsy King’s gloves will remain on the shelf or if he’ll make another comeback in the competitive heavyweight division.
